WHAT WE BELIEVE
God is the creator and ruler of the universe. We believe in one God who has existed forever as three co-equal persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God is infinite in power, wisdom, and goodness.
As humans, we are created in the image of God to be spiritual, moral and relational beings. God is a personal God who loves every human deeply and desires a relationship with each of us. We are also sinful creatures. Because of the sin in our lives we are separated from God.
Our relationship with God can only be restored through the personal acceptance of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Jesus is the Son of God. While he lived on Earth he was fully God and fully human. Jesus lived a sinless life, serving others, showing all of humanity what it means to live as God intended humans to live. Although sinless, Jesus died a sinner’s death on the cross. Because he died and rose again, each of us can have our sin forgiven and enter into an eternal relationship with God.
SALVATION BY GRACE:
God loves every human being. We believe that a person comes into a right relationship with God and is “saved” by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ (Ephesians 2:8-9). Salvation is God’s gift to us. When we become saved by grace through faith we are each forgiven of our sin and begin an eternal relationship with God. The eternal relationship marks the beginning a life-long process of becoming more and more like Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit is the power that changes us, makes us new creations.
The Holy Spirit carries out the mission of Jesus Christ in the world today. The power of the Holy Spirit convinces sinners of their need to repent, comforts the afflicted, afflicts the comfortable, and sustains and empowers/equips believers for ministry in the church, community, and world.
The church is a community of persons who have declared first and foremost that Jesus Christ is LORD! The church is the vehicle through which God has chosen to offer the hope of Jesus Christ to the world. Empowered by the power of the Holy Spirit, the church seeks to meet the spiritual, physical, mental, and emotional needs of a hurting world.
We know the story of God’s interactions with humanity by reading the Bible. The Bible is God’s Word to us. The Holy Spirit inspired the writing of the Bible. It is a holy and authoritative book that reveals truth and serves as the basis for our beliefs. We believe that it is necessary for all believers to study the Bible. The Bible is authoritative and has the right to command our beliefs and actions.
We believe in the existence of both heaven and hell and that Jesus will return to judge the earth and to establish his eternal kingdom.
Our beliefs are found in scripture, endorsed by the tradition of the universal Church, tested by human experience, and confirmed by reason.
